Section 11.7 Homework Hints

    Problems 1-3
    There are many problems throughout the text labeled IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Just relax; do not be afraid to give your opinion. For the most part, these questions do not have "right" or "wrong" answers. You should spend about five minutes in answering each of these questions.
    Problems 4-5
    These problems are checking whether you know which formula to use when identified by name.
    Problems 6-11
    These problems are essential to your understanding of this chapter.
    Work on finding the answers to these questions until you are satisfied you have the correct answers. It would be a good idea to memorize these questions and answers.
    Problems 12-15
    You are not expected to have these formulas memorized.
    Nevertheless, these problems are essential to your understanding of this chapter.

    For example, you should know that an annuity problem seeks to find the future value. This means that it seeks to find the variable A, which means that the answer to Problem 12 is annuity.

    Problems 16-19
    The classification of the financial type is of utmost importance in understanding the material of this chapter. If you can classify these by type, then you understand this chapter.
    Problems 20-52
    The classification of the financial type is of utmost importance in understanding the material of this chapter. If you can classify these by type, then you understand this chapter. It is recommended you attempt to identify the type of all of these problems, whether they are assigned or not.

    Note: Homework Hints are given only for the Level 1 and Level 2 problems.

    However, as you go through the book be sure you look at all the examples in the text. If you need hints for the Level 3 problems, check some sources for help on the internet (see the LINKS for that particular section. As a last resort, you can call the author at (707) 829-0606.

    On the other hand, the problems designated "Problem Solving" generally require techniques that do not have textbook examples.
