Section 3.3: Simplification
Homework Hints

Problems 1-2
There are many problems throughout the text labeled IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Just relax. Do not be afraid to give your opinion. For the most part, these questions do not have "right" or "wrong" answers. You should spend about five minutes in answering each of these questions.

Problems 3-34
See Examples 1-5. Don't just "look" at the examples. Take out a pencil and paper and work each part for yourself. Check to make sure your pencil and paper work look like what you see in the text. Remember, you are not just looking for answers, but for the correct way to represent algebra on your paper. Do not allow your paper to look like "scrap paper."

Problems 35-50
See Example 6. We are not just looking for answers, but for the correct way to represent algebra on your paper. Do not allow your paper to look like "scrap paper." Notice how the equal signs are aligned when you move from one step to the next.

Problems 51-52
These problems are designed to help you think through the distributive property.
