There are many problems throughout the text labeled IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Just relax. Do not be afraid to give your opinion. For the most part, these questions do not have "right" or "wrong" answers. You should spend about five minutes in answering each of these questions.

See Example 2; be sure to "add the opposite."

Problems 19-26
See the Essential Ideas for this section as well as Example 3.

Problems 27-38
See Example 4; simplify after you substitute the given values.

Problems 39-46
Make sure you distinguish between the minus key and the negative (or opposite) key or .

Note: a calculator will have only one of these keys; which one depends on the brand or model.

Problems 47-53
Carry out the requested subtractions, and be sure to give your answer in the form of a complete sentence.
