Homework Hints

Problems 1-4
There are many problems throughout the text labeled IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Just relax. Do not be afraid to give your opinion. For the most part, these questions do not have "right" or "wrong" answers. You should spend about five minutes in answering each of these questions.

Problems 5-6
This problem is about counting in various bases.

Problems 7-16
These problems demonstrate the first step illustrated in Example 1. You do not need to carry out the arithmetic to convert into base 10, but just leave your answer in expanded notation.

Problems 17-30
See Example 1.

Problems 31-44
See Examples 2 and 3.

Problems 45-58
See Example 4.

Problems 59-60
As the problem says, you need to think about these problems from 3 to 17 minutes before you start to answer the question. Write about half a page for each of question.
