There are many problems throughout the text labeled IN YOUR
OWN WORDS. Just relax. Do not be afraid to give your opinion. For the most
part, these questions do not have "right" or "wrong" answers. You should spend
about five minutes in answering each of these questions.
Examples 1 and 2 are important for working with fractions, since fractions have many
different forms, we desire to leave fractions in reduced form.
See Example 4 and notice that as these problems progress you are given fewer and fewer visual clues on how to do these. So if you are working Problem 19,
look back at Problem 14 to see how to begin.
See Examples 7 and 8.
These problems are what this section is all about. You need to be able to work these problems to proceed
with your mathematical studies. See Examples 3 and 5 for the multiplication
problems and Example 9 for the division problems. Remember to reduce before
multiplying or dividing and also remember the order of operations.
See Example 12.
Read the directions carefully. If you
need 1/10 of 200, then multiply (1/100)200 = 20. Then, multiply by the salary.
Remember that "of" means to multiply;
see Example 6.
