There are many problems throughout the text labeled IN YOUR
OWN WORDS. Just relax. Do not be afraid to give your opinion. For the most
part, these questions do not have "right" or "wrong" answers. You should spend
about five minutes in answering each of these questions.
See
Examples 1-3. Take some time with these examples. Most students find rounding
either very hard or very easy. You need to work for that "breakthrough" which
makes this easy for you.
Calculators often write fractions
as decimals with 8 to 12 decimal places. These problems show you how such
a calculator screen might look. (You do not need a calculator to do these
problems.). See Examples 1-3.
See Examples 4 and 5. Each example
or problem is different, so we are back to a chicken-and-the-egg situation.
Don't be afraid to attempt an estimate before you turn to paper and pencil
or a calculator.
Problems 39-44 are rounding problems; see Examples 1-3.
Problems 45-52 are estimation problems; see Examples 4 and 5.
Note: Homework Hints are given only for the levels 1 and 2 problems.
